As a point of principle, I made the decision to refrain from including beach volleyball or tennis players as 'Lympic Ladies. Tennis players are just ubiquitous - no-one is gonna be impressed by a few shots of Maria Sharapova, and beach volleyball is basically porn for beginners anyway. Regular, indoor, plain old volleyball is fair game though - and so is Neslihan Darnel.I've got to admit, I was entirely unaware of her existence until the opening ceremony, when she carried the flag for Turkey. 6 foot 1 of tanned, exotic loveliness, Nes certainly grabbed attention for more than her flag-waving skills. She is also a decorated player, though I don't really know much about volleyball. Or, indeed, anything else about Neslihan Darnel. She may or may not enjoy long walks on the beach and Italian food. Who knows.
All we can be certain of is that she is a very lovely girl. She might be nicknamed the Iron Lady, but Thatcher certainly never looked like this...
